CONFERENCE SYNOPSIS
“Beyond Choice: Exploring Reproductive Justice from Scholarship to Activism” The reproductive justice framework advances reproductive rights and health by placing them in the larger context of the movement for social justice. For many women, the struggle for reproductive rights and freedom extends beyond “choice” to include the need to have personal reproductive health, healthy children and a healthy community. Yet, these goals are not met for all women especially women of color, poor women, women with chronic illness and those with disabilities. This conference aims to bring more women into the fold by inviting activists, scholars, artists, community members, and clinicians to examine the gender-based history of the reproductive rights movement, current policies affecting the reproductive health and rights of women, and next steps for bridging diverse communities in the fight for reproductive justice.
